This January, HILT and HarvardX will co-sponsor the first "January Academy for Technology-Enabled Teaching," a bootcamp for doctoral students from across the university on new technologies and their use in the classroom.
This project-based program will consist of a series of hands-on sessions and discussions with faculty, senior staff, and experienced graduate students. Participants will be supported to develop a technology-enabled teaching innovation for use in a classroom setting, preferably during the upcoming spring semester. Project types could include assignments or tools that use video, social media, online curation, technology-enabled feedback, and annotation software, among others. Intensive sessions focused on the design, development, implementation and assessment of projects will be interspersed with facilitated individual and group work. It is expected that projects will be substantially completed over the course of the January session. Participants will receive ongoing consultative support over the spring term for their projects, and will be expected to present them at an event late in the spring where they will be eligible for an additional cash prize. The syllabus will be customized depending upon applicant projects.
Eligibility: Doctoral students, Harvard University (limited to 20 participants)
Stipend: Stipend of $500 provided (75% end of January, 25% upon completion and presentation late spring)
Schedule: January 15-25, 2013 and follow-up presentation during the spring semester
