The editing process is a major part of the production time involved in making a MOOC. We finished all of our shooting about six weeks ago, but we are now deep in the process of integrating various visual inserts into studio footage.

The first stage is a radio edit, which I am not involved in. The editor takes an entire shoot (normally about two hours of footage, which includes all the breaks between filming and multiples takes of lines) and puts together camera angles and creates a coherent flow. With our course slated to start in September, this week has seen a lot of our efforts focused on completing the necessary materials for a marketing push at the start of July. The marketing push will include our course page (with a course summary) on edX and a trailer (a la the movies.)

What makes a good trailer?

For our course, “Education Policy and Politics”, we filmed nearly 20 interviews between Professor Peterson and various experts and practitioners in education.
